As your child is now leaving Year 4 and will be sitting the 11+ in September 2019, we wanted to advise you of some helpful tips…
The 11+ exam can be tough for everybody involved.
Getting high marks takes practice, dedicated studying and a strict routine that isn’t normal for you or your child.
Good news:
There ARE proven ways to not only survive the 11+ – but THRIVE.
Here are a few ideas to get you started on a solid footing:
1. Make your prep time FUN!
I know it’s hard to imagine having fun with your child as they prepare for a big exam. But we’ve found using resources prepared specifically for the 11+ can in fact BOOST your child’s response to learning.
Lessons at Tuition Academy vary the pressure so that your child enjoys coming as well as work hard! At home, the studies you do with your child can be beneficial, as well as enjoyable.
Have fun, keep it light, and you’ll see for yourself 🙂
2. Communication is key.
Because the 11+ is a timed test, it’s common for parents to rush through the curriculum, potentially missing important learning opportunities with your child.
If you have a simple daily routine to follow, it’s more likely you’ll spot areas needing extra focus and also areas where your child excels.
We follow a 50 week curriculum preparing your child for the 11+ Medway and Kent Tests keeping focused on what your child needs to learn. Looking through the work they complete each week, will help you as a parent see the topics they may need to revisit or have shone in.
3. Attending our 11+ Programme and completing the homework each week
Our 11+ learning programme over the next year will prepare your child for the exam, taking them through the necessary aspects of the curriculum needed to pass the 11+. Your child will work hard each week covering various topics; taking mock assessments; and extending their skills to help prepare for the 11+.
Laying the groundwork – Throughout their Year 4 studies, we have been laying the groundwork and preparing your child for what is to come in Year 5.
Preparation is really worthwhile doing in the months leading up to your child starting Year 5 and now that it’s the summer, you can continue this at home as well as in lessons
