Physics tuition – areas of focus

Improving and strengthening subject knowledge – students learn in small ability-based classes of up to 10, enabling us to provide personalised attention and quickly address any issues.

Exam skills – we focus on learning to complete as many answers as possible in a clear and concise manner, timing, and staying calm and focused.

Key Stage 3 – Years 7-9, Ages 11-14

Key Stage 3 is a particularly important time in students’ education, as they now study more subjects and in greater depth compared to Key Stage 2.

Physics at this stage is taught as part of the Science curriculum. Our focussed tuition ensures your child has a solid foundation in Physics, can confidently cope with the pace of learning and progress towards GCSE level.

Our ability-based classes are designed for students to learn at their most suitable level, achieving the best possible results.

Students with a strong interest and advanced ability in Physics can learn beyond the National Curriculum level, preparing to go into more depth at GCSE and A-level.

Key Stage 4 – GCSE – Years 10-11, Ages 14-16

GCSE Physics is taught as part of Science, and our weekly 2-hour classes focus on consolidating the subject knowledge and developing effective exam taking skills.

We teach both Foundation GCSE and Higher GCSE Physics, with classes structured according to the main exam boards.

GCSE exams are taken at the end of Year 11 and for best results we recommend joining our classes at the start of year 10.

We run additional intensive revision classes in February and during the Easter break to get students into the best shape for the exam.

Key Stage 5 – A-level – 6th Form, Ages 16-18

A-level Physics is taught as a specialist subject, and we provide tuition for both AS and A2 level Physics. There are six units – three AS and three A2. Four of the units are exam-based. The two units dedicated to investigative and practical skills can be assessed either by a teacher or an exam.

Our weekly classes aim to deepen students’ knowledge of scientific concepts and help them develop and apply observational, practical, modelling, enquiry, problem-solving, and mathematical skills.

A-level Physics builds on the concepts and skills developed in GCSE Physics and is best suited for students who have the skills and knowledge associated with a GCSE Additional Science course.

Our A-level Physics tuition in Medway and Maidstone is results-based, enabling students to perform at their best in both exam and teacher-led assessments.

FAQs

Supplementary education at Tuition Academy Maidstone and Medway gives students a strong academic foundation and vital skills to succeed at school and beyond.

How does supplementary education at Tuition Academy Maidstone and Medway differ from classroom study?

At Tuition Academy, we are passionate about teaching students and giving them comprehensive subject knowledge, as opposed to coaching them how to pass exams. We provide a structured, personal, and differentiated learning environment, enabling students to study at their best individual pace and ability. Our teachers engage with our students within a small group, ensuring our students’ learning objectives and needs are met.

Will my child receive support during the examination period?

Of course. We provide full support and advice for all our students before, during and after their exams. Students are welcome to come to the sessions with any questions they may have about participating in exams. Our dedicated staff are on hand to help students achieve their true potential and boost confidence levels.

Are all your staff experienced teachers?

Yes. All our staff are expert specialist teachers and skilled teaching assistants who are passionate about their subjects.

Do you provide all learning resources?

All learning resources are included in the tuition.

Is a one-on-one tuition option available?

Although we don’t provide regular one-to-one tuition, we ensure all students have the support they need. If your child is struggling with a subject area and needs some extra help, our experienced teaching assistants with advanced subject knowledge are happy to provide one-to-one assistance.

How will my child’s progress be monitored?

Our teaching staff use their experience in identifying an individual’s abilities and personally monitor your child’s progress. Our teachers will highlight specific areas which may need more attention whether this may be a subject, topic or learning technique. As a parent/guardian, you are welcome to ask our team questions regarding your child’s progress at any time.

When should I start preparing for 11 Plus?

We highly recommend starting 11 Plus preparation one year in advance. We provide specific 11 Plus preparation including exam technique guidance, confidence building, and mock tests, ensuring students feel ready for the test they take in Year 6 before progression into Secondary or Upper School the following September.

If your child needs to raise their subject knowledge levels before starting 11 Plus preparation, we recommend joining our classes in Year 4.

Are 11 Plus mock exams available?

Yes. We have a range of dates available for students to participate in mock exams, allowing up to 6 students to participate per session. Courses work on a ‘first come – first served’ basis and must be booked in advance. Mock Exams will be taken under strict exam conditions and each paper will last 50 minutes. Each paper will be marked and returned enabling students to use for revision. Prices and exam duration vary depending on the course choice.
